In Ethiopia, June through September is the rainy season, or Kiremt. As the children finished up their school year, the families received a distribution of flour – used to make ambasha (a flatbread), chechebsa (a breakfast dish), and other foods. With more meals being eaten at home, parents were delighted to receive extra help in providing meals for their children. The staff also provided hygiene items, blankets, and school supplies.
Each age group was also able to attend a retreat or go on a day trip this summer. Younger children enjoyed a natural history museum and time at a playground, and older children swam and played outdoor games during an overnight retreat. A three-day retreat was held for the teenagers age 15 and older.
Parents also attended a get-together hosted by the staff and a visiting missions team. After a Bible-based lesson and lunch, an awards ceremony honored parents who showed excellence in areas like volunteering or loan repayment. Several parents expressed that the program has brought them from death to life. It was a day of rest, empowerment, and encouragement for these parents. Thank you to all our sponsors for what you do every month to change these lives in Ethiopia!
