Our child sponsorship program supports nearly 200 orphans and vulnerable children in Addis Ababa. The program is administered by Community Transformation Ethiopia (CTE), an indigenous organization licensed by the Ethiopian government. CTE has 10 paid staff and 25 volunteers. Hope In View staff and volunteers manage the program in the USA.

Fikadu
Executive Director
Fikadu oversees the Child Sponsorship Program and 37 Self-Help Groups in Addis Ababa and the western part of Ethiopia. He also trains and oversees leaders who have planted over 60 churches containing some 500 small groups, mostly in that western area. He is a board member and mission department leader for the Ethiopian Addis Kidan Baptist denomination and an elder and mission leader in his local church. His wife, Tsige, volunteers extensively at CTE and they have two adult children.

Rahel
Program Director
Rahel has Master’s degrees in Leadership Management and Counseling & Psychology. She has extensive experience in program planning, monitoring and management, child development and protection, integrated rural development work, and grants management. She also volunteers with UN Women, a civil society organization advisory group. She and her husband have 2 daughters and one son. She enjoys cooking, reading, movies based on real stories, and helping her parents.
One of the boys came into my office to show me his failing grades. I asked him about the boy with good grades in his class: “How many ears does he have? How many eyes does he have? How is he different from you?” After reflection, he responded, “He is not different from me in anything. I didn’t study enough.” He promised to work harder. A semester later, he was 4th in ranking out of 50 students. He was so excited to show me his report card. I was very happy and proud of him. He is now a University student with good grades. I’ll never forget the turning point for that kid.”

Haregewoyen

Hareg became a social worker in 2021, after serving as CTE’s warehouse manager and self-help group leader. She is often in the community visiting and helping others in need. She and her husband are expecting their third child. She enjoys movies and time with family and friends.
There was a parent living on the streets of Addis. She’d ask me to register her into our program, and I’d tell her that we had to wait for her turn. Thankfully, we found sponsors fast and she was registered quickly.
One day, she came to my office and asked me to pray for the upcoming house lottery (ran by the Government for people who don’t have house). She said, “your God is almighty”. An hour after I prayed, she came running into my office and told me that she won the lottery. I was so happy about what God did through me. I will always remember that wonderful day!

Tsige
Self-Help Group Leader and Home Visitor
Tsige volunteers extensively in her church and at CTE. She has been working with us for over 10 years. She leads a self-help savings group and makes home visits. She is married to our executive director, Fikadu, and gets credit for much of his success.
Our small groups often solve problems by sharing our struggles, discussing solutions, and offering support. One of my members suffered a setback financially and lost her housing. We visited her, provided food and soap, and counseled her on ways to become more financially stable. She took a loan and started selling vegetables around her local area. She found new housing. I was also able to encourage her son who was suffering from depression. He changed his perspective and focused on working toward accomplishing his dreams. It is a joy to see the family gradually recovering, happy again, and working hard.
