Thanks to a visiting church team of sponsors, sponsored teens age 15 and up enjoyed a three-day retreat led by the sponsorship staff.
Our journey began with joyful hearts and great anticipation. As we boarded the bus, we shared biscuits and enjoyed the excitement in the air. We stopped for group pictures in a beautiful highland setting, followed by a hearty lunch. The energy and laughter continued as we visited Abijata-Shala National Park, where we marveled at the majestic Shala Lake and admired the warm hot springs. With the help of two gracious tour guides, the children explored creation in awe – so much so that they didn’t want to leave!
The next morning began with a time of reading God’s Word followed by a delicious breakfast in a local restaurant. The visiting team then shared and led group games. The children reflected on the truth that each of us is uniquely created by God with our own appearance, personality, and even fingerprints.
After a late lunch, we headed to Lake Hawassa for a peaceful boat ride. That evening, we gathered around a campfire where fellowship deepened. We shared tibs (lamb stir-fried with Ethiopian spices), and the night closed with group and one-on-one conversations. Simple joys like avocado mash with bread and bananas brought comfort and connection.
Our final day began early with breakfast on the road. We stopped for a joyful time of swimming, then headed back to Addis, stopping for lunch to avoid traffic.
