Almaz is the single mother of Ashenafi (sponsored) and Eyerusalem. Both she and Eyerusalem need special medication for a chronic illness. She has often been sick and went through a long period where she was on bed rest. During that time, the food and home visits from the sponsorship staff and medicine from Hope In View were crucial to their family. “Without it, we wouldn’t have survived”, she says.
Recently, Almaz took out a small loan from her self-help group to start selling vegetables. It is helping with family expenses. She also sees the fruit of sponsorship in her children’s success. Ashenafi has been in the child sponsorship program for the last 10 years. He is now 19 years old and has become an outstanding student. Among 6,000 public school students, he ranked first in an educational competition this year. Almaz says, “My son couldn’t even attend school without the sponsorship support.”
