My name is Aster. I have two sisters and one brother. I got into the sponsorship program after my father heard about it. My mother was the breadwinner of our home. As a daily laborer, her income wasn’t sufficient to feed our family and life was a daily struggle. At that time, my father had no work because of a disability, and we struggled to make ends meet. There were days we were barely able to afford one meal a day. Once I was sponsored, we started eating three times a day. Our life started changing; I didn’t ever have new clothes or shoes when school started before joining the sponsorship program
I received school supplies, clothes, and access to nutritious meals, which was a luxury for our family. For the first time, I could focus on my education without worrying about being hungry. Through sponsor gifts, we are able to get food and basic necessities. I am also able to to go to college. Because of my sponsors, I didn’t drop out of school.
My father received training to make handwoven baskets and my mom sells what he makes. My father says, “After joining sponsorship when Aster was little, our life changed. We eat well. We live in a better house and a lot has changed. May God bless her sponsors with peace and his protection.”
